Governor McKee, Commissioner Infante-Green Recognize Weekly Attendance Leaders

Week of April 8, 2024 
 

PROVIDENCE, RI – Acknowledging the importance of consistent attendance in education and in alignment with the #AttendanceMatters campaign, Governor Dan McKee and Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green are pleased to highlight the top elementary, middle, and high schools with the greatest average weekly attendance as well as elementary and secondary schools with the greatest improvement in weekly attendance.

 

The following schools are Rhode Island’s attendance leaders for the week of April 8, 2024*: 

 

·     Elementary: Ashton Elementary School, Cumberland – 96.3% 

·     Middle: Achievement First Iluminar Mayoral Academy Middle School – 93.7% 

·     High School: Cumberland High School – 95.1%

 

Special recognition is extended to the following schools for demonstrating the most improved average attendance rates from the previous week:  

 

·     Elementary: Stony Lane Elementary School, North Kingstown – 3.9%

·     Middle: Joseph L. McCourt Middle School, Cumberland – 5% 

·     High: Central Falls High School – 5%

 

The Governor and Commissioner express their gratitude and encouragement to all schools in Rhode Island for their ongoing efforts to prioritize attendance and reinforce the value of consistent learning experiences for all students.

For the first time in weeks, there are no active pro-Palestinian protests or protestors on the campus of Columbia University. After being requested by the Ivy League university's president, NYPD officers in riot gear entered the campus just after 9 p.m. Tuesday. By eleven, Hamilton Hall - which had been taken over by students who broke in hours earlier, was fully clear. So was the encampment protest site.       Violence is breaking out at the pro-Palestinian protest camp on the grounds of UCLA in Los Angeles. At least one person is injured after fireworks were thrown inside the encampment late Tuesday night, and video from the scene shows multiple fights breaking out. Campus police say they are responding to the scene.       The judge in former President Donald Trump's criminal hush money trial says there will be no session on May 17th. That's the day Trump's youngest son, 18-year-old Barron, is set to graduate from Oxford Academy in Palm Beach County near Mar-a-Lago.       The Biden administration plans to reclassify marijuana, easing restrictions nationwide. The interim rule soon would reclassify the drug to a less stringent category that includes Tylenol and steroids. That'll be the first time since the Controlled Substances Act was enacted more than 50 years ago.       The opening bell rings this morning after stocks tumbled Tuesday to close out the month on Wall Street. Fresh inflation concerns ahead of today's interest rate decision by the Federal Reserve sparked a broad market sell-off. Most market analysts are expecting the central bank to keep the federal funds rate where it's at.       Walmart is closing all 51 of its healthcare centers and stopping virtual healthcare services. After making a large push into healthcare in recent years, the company is shutting locations down in Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri and Texas.
